Recently the
issue of death celebration had greatly caught our attention to the point of
inordinate alarm. Why should one worry about it anyway? Or, is it ordinary that
one should consider the matter of death with triviality?
What is death?
The ordinary terms of death are; an end to life, loss of life, passing away,
demise or deceased… These and other numerous similar expressions sound
frightening to the ear. Actually, death is ought to be feared!
There was no death in the world, until sin came. “But of
the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in
the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” (Gen. 2:17)
We must be
very acquainted with the rebellion of our first fore-parents in the Garden of
Eden; they ate the forbidden fruit, which resulted into sin against God. That
was when death came into our world. “For the wages of sin is death; but the
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Gal 6:23);
also read Ro 5:12,17,21; Jas 1:15.
If death came
as a result of sin; disobedience and rebellion against God Almighty, then death
must be an enemy of God. Just like God hates sin, so also He hates death!
It is amazing, the worship and adorning of death by some people today.
