What
name do you bear? I did not say; “What is your name?” The name you bear carries
a meaning. May be you were given the name right from birth; and it had been
your common identity till now!
There
is a probability that the name was meant to carry on an ancestral program
unknown to you (Gen 41:45). As it was also in the case of John the Baptist; at
birth he was to be named after his father Zacharias.
But
the mother rejected it; because John’s name had been predicted even before his
conception. “His mother answered and said, "No; he shall be called
John." But they said to her, "There is no one among your relatives
who is called by this name.” (Lk 1:60,61)
God
made each of us for a purpose of His eternal glory; and the names we bear must agree
with it. He had to change some names in the Bible to suit or fulfill the
expected results.
Abram
and Sarai were renamed in Genesis 17:5,15. In Genesis 32:28, Jacob’s name was
changed to Israel. Saul became Paul (Ac 13:9).
Are
you certain that the name given to you or the one you gave yourself as a
nickname or whatever is giving God the glory by what it makes in your life? If
not, do not be troubled should you desire God to give you a new name in Jesus’
Name...
