Chapter 3 of my Book "Everyday with the Holy Spirit. Vol 2" ...the Kingdom Perspective of the Gospel of Jesus Christ...
We must always bear in mind that Jesus did not come to do away with the teachings of the prophets and the law, He actually came to fulfill them. And He said, “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one title shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” (Mt. 5:18)
Let us take a look at the Kingdom references in the Old Testament;
a) It is necessary to take note of what happened in Genesis 1:26-28 again. When God made man, “… in His own image and after His likeness…” He said, “…let them have dominion…And He blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion…”
There is no doubt that God’s image and likeness in man and the injunction He gave them to replenish, subdue the earth and to exercise dominion over it suggest that man should rule and reign alongside with Him over His entire creation! (Gen. 5:1; 9:2, 6; Ps. 8:6; Ec. 7:29 etc).
b) The Kingdom prophecy by Isaiah 9:6-7 “Unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the Government shall be upon His shoulder… Of the increase of His Government and peace, there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his Kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgement and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” (also read Is. 16:5).
The above prophesy clearly points to the Messiah. What should becloud our faith and vision to accept that the day He was born was the actual day His Government started? We must therefore acknowledge this reality; and be very conscious and confident of it, rediscover it and seek to practice it in all aspects of our existence now and into the everlasting Kingdom.
