Why
is the church so much fragmented? Why do we have diverse doctrinal
interpretations of the scriptures? What and who is responsible for the various
versions of the Bible. Do the disagreements we have against one another in the
church favorable and comfortable or otherwise for our eternal truth?
These
and many of such questions we must resolve if the church must truly be accepted
as of God and His Christ. Many are agitating for church unity; but they may
never be in the position to address the crisis of ecclesiastical fragmentation.
These
are church issues that border on denominational, doctrinal, creedal, historical
and geographical inducements. We may not delve into the professional analyses
of the factors that had truncated the family unity of the Body of Christ.
However,
we have a task to stand in the gab to find ways that can subject the ugly trend
to the control of God’s Spirit as He is the One that instituted the Church.
The
World Council of Churches (WCC), the Christian/Church Council of Nigeria (CCN),
the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Pentecostal Fellowship of
Nigeria etc, were intended to bring the church together; some of them for
decades and many are still springing up. We are yet to actualize the dreams of
these visions.
The
Holy Spirit, God’s Agent for transformation and true change must be consulted
with an un-bias approach; He must be given His ultimate place in every
Christian’s heart. The Word of God; the Bible also must be strictly and highly
respected and honored with the purpose of obeying it as the only standard for
the church to follow.
Now
sacrifices must be made, pride and prejudice, fear of losing the status quo and
a host of bottle necks must all be considered as thrash which must be thrown
into the dust ditch and be totally buried forever in Jesus’ Name.
