CARING FOR THE RETIREES AND THE AGED

Before getting out of active service from whatever field of endeavor; people must have lived their lives in certain styles that at old age they will wish to be remembered for. This requires a careful and disciplined lifestyle.

Throughout one’s lifetime, there are challenges to combat on a daily basis.  When the world demands that you impress them, you should be cautioned that behind these demands there are always both the good and ugly exits!

Many had played it rough when they were still strong and full of zeal to achieve their desired goals in life. They did not have the opportunity to learn patience to discipline themselves without someone’s supervision. Therefore they ended up as the prodigal son who wasted his life in riotous lifestyle!

They were men without taking much time to relate with God in the process of ordinary earthly duties. They could not handle opportunities in the fear of God; they did not have compassion for the needy as it ought to have been. They were extravagant in managing resources. They were tempted to be arrogant and full of themselves at the point of promotions or alleviations. So many could have gone wrong or right when life was still at its best!

At retirement, many had wished to have the rewind of history. But alas, that will never happen! The only hope that lies before the retired and the aged is a quick resort to turn to God with all passion. Although it is very unpleasant to give God the dilapidated portion of life; yet He would never mind a dedicated commitment at this point.

We all have a responsibility to share our lives with all people especially the retirees and the aged. Whether people had spent their best of lives appreciably or not, the fact still remains, we must always be our brothers’ keepers. Furthermore, we all make mistakes, it is only God’s grace that keeps and preserves us.  So we must act in accordance to divine injunction to remain a blessing to the helpless of this category.  Take note, if you were still young, someday you will join this camp!
