We are very conversant with the Lord's Prayer; it is the church's anthem to many. It is rehearsed almost on a daily basis. To many nominal Christians, it is the only form of prayer they know. Many of us never knew that the Lord's Prayer is found in the Bible.
The most striking aspect of the Lord's Prayer that our attention had been drawn to is, Matthew 6:10 "Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven." When we make this prayer assertion or declaration, we hardly understand the spiritual implication of it. That is why many Christians had lost confidence to pray without ceasing; they doubt God to answer them; prayer had become a religious exercise, and so people can afford to turn to ungodly avenues for solution to their problems. What a disgrace to Christianity!
In the closet; my usual place of prayer, the Lord impressed into my spirit by His Spirit's intimation concerning "on earth as in heaven." Though I already conceived an idea of what it implies; yet I can say there was a revelation posted to my heart. I had to make a little search into the Bible, and there I found a deeper understanding of Heaven on Earth.
What is in Heaven or what is going on there right now? Whatever you are able to have a glimpse of in heaven, that is exactly what you pray for to happen in your life or situation here on earth. I found in the Bible an encouragement, when John had just baptized Jesus, he testified; Mathew 3:16 "...the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him."
There was an open heaven, out of it was the Spirit of God coming, and there was also light that fell on Jesus! Then a voice followed;"...This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." (vs 17). Ezekiel is one of the prophets who received visions as a result of open heaven. (1:1) John the Beloved was also blessed with open heaven visions. (Rev. 19:11) So each time we utter a prayer of the will of God to be done on Earth as in Heaven, all we are desiring in prayer is for heavenly revelations to operate in our lives and situations here on earth!
With this spiritual awareness we should allow God to release His heavenly visions to the church; separating us from the earthly pursuits and to ensure the reality of God truly functional amongst His people. If we experience reality open heavens on a daily basis, we should be able to direct the affairs of God's Kingdom here in our midst; and save our necks from running after the world's futile pursuits.
