Genesis 1:29 "And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food."
Food plays a very significant role in the life of the living things; especially in humans. We all crave for food whether we are hungry or not. Many an eating habits had become induced by the spirit of gluttony and selfish appetites. A normal eating habit also is to be controlled by discipline.
One is not surprised that among all the cares of life, food seems to take the lead in causing much anxiety and worry. In most cases, you will hear people making assertions like, 'man must whack,' 'I am simply looking for chop money,' 'it is all about survival' and so on and so forth. These are all cases for food defense.
And in a more serious and concerned note, in the process of defending one's right to get food, many had lost control of themselves to delve into stealing, cheating, betraying, loosing balance for understanding purpose in life etc. The society too had not help matters; those who are in the position to cater for the weak and less privileged had not played their roles as their brothers' keepers.
Jesus Christ looking at the struggles people are passing through about food cautioned us in response to the devil's temptation about food; Matthew4:4 "...It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" And continued in the same vein; Matthew 6:25 "Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; ... Is not life more than food...?"
If one's focus is centred on food, as said earlier, there will be so much to worry about. So Jesus Christ, caring for us had provided a lighter approach about food seeking. His method is in the supernatural; we are to trust God for every reason for our living; food being central than the others.
In trusting God, we are to consider the kind of faith as it were in the birds of the air, the flowers of the field, how out of no struggles they are well kept by our same Creator. This is the only lesson that can help curb our uncontrollable appetites!
